Kelly Clarkson Covers Eminem’s ‘Lose Yourself’
Kelly Clarkson can spit rhymes! The pop star performed at the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Detroit on Aug. 10, where she showed off her flow in a cover of Eminem‘s ‘Lose Yourself.’
The ‘Duets’ star has been honoring fan requests on the road — including everything from Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ to Madonna’s ‘Crazy for You’ — but this time she put her hood up (literally) and rocked a rendition of the 2002 hit from the ’8 Mile’ soundtrack.
“I’m being very brave tonight with this fan request,” she said to the audience. The singer put on a grey hoodie, which she borrowed from a friend, and joked with the crowd saying she was going from “Texas to thug.”
“If this sucks, you better still come to my shows,” she added. Never one to disappoint, Clarkson put a sing-song twist on Em’s lyrics, but also maintaining it’s intensity and grit with her signature voice.
The tongue-twister rhymes are easy to sing along to while the song plays on the radio, Clarkson reminded fans, but much more difficult to replicate without the rapper’s help — not to mention on a stage and in front of thousands. The ‘American Idol’ alum performed the tune with flying colors, though, and for that, we salute her.
