VH1 Soul, a spinoff of MTV Networks’ VH1 channel, is a digital cable and satellite network aimed at fans of soul and R&B. So, it’s understandable that some people were surprised when news broke that Ryan Seacrest may be taking over the network.

According to reports, the ‘American Idol’ host, along with live entertainment company AEG, is in talks with the Viacom-owned company to potentially acquire the channel.

While some reports claim the deal is far from being finalized, others state “talks are in an advanced stage.”

Seacrest was sure to make it clear that any network deal he was a part of wouldn’t result in a Ryan Seacrest channel, à la OWN. “It will not be branded with my name or my face, which many people will be happy about,” he said in an interview.

With that said, Seacrest would serve as an influential partner, offering his producing skills, his connections to talent and potentially some on-air contributions.

So what does that mean for the channel’s content which features music from artists like Maxwell, Jill Scott and Erykah Badu? Only time will tell.
