The New York State Senate passed a resolution this week to honor the work of the Beastie Boys‘ Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch, who died earlier this month from cancer of the parotid gland. Spin reports that State Senator Daniel Squadron wrote resolution J4637-2011 to remember the late rapper. According to AllHipHop.com, Tuf America filed the lawsuit on May 3 claiming the group unlawfully sampled portions of Trouble Funk’s songs on two of their classic albums.

The Beastie Boys were inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 14, the same day that Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch was hospitalized for what would be the last time. Though Yauch couldn’t attend and his bandmates didn’t perform without him, Kid Rock, Travie McCoy and the Roots paid tribute to their musical legacy with a fun medley of the group’s hits.

Beastie Boys rapper Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch passed away on Friday, May 4 at the tender age of 47 after a lengthy battle with salivary gland cancer. He gave his last live performance with the legendary hip-hop/rock hybrid at the annual Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee in June 2009, the same year he was diagnosed with the disease.
