Easter is this coming weekend and parents are gathering different things to make their child's Easter basket the best basket ever.  Baby chicks, ducks and bunnies sound like the perfect gift, but are they really?

With Easter being just days away, it isn't uncommon to go out and buy baby chicks, ducklings or bunnies.  They represent Easter and are always so cute and cuddly.  But most people buy these animals without realizing the responsibility that comes with it.

These animals are cute while they are small, but they eventually grow up and become chickens and big bunnies and ducks.  They need constant care and clean up.

The animals are often dropped off at local parks, the humane society or even the zoo.

The Amarillo Humane Society and the Amarillo Zoo are discouraging people from purchasing them this year.  Here is what the AHS had to say:

"At Easter time people will go out and buy the cute little chicks and bunnies and ducks," said Debra Hall with the Amarillo Humane Society. "When they get big, people just don't want to mess with them anymore. We start seeing a lot of bunnies and ducks brought in."

These organizations would love to take in all the animals, but unfortunately the keep cost money and take up space.  So they are encouraging for all people to do their research before purchasing any animal.

While Easter pets are cute they do grow up.  Think before you buy.
