I was getting flooded with calls yesterday about an armed man running through Walmart at 45th & Coulter in Amarillo, stemming from a police chase by the Amarillo Police Dept due to a stolen vehicle that refused to pull over for police.  The end result, suspect, Miles Allen Minor, a 30 year old white male of Amarillo, was booked into the Randall County Jail on multiple charges.  Charges include unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, evading arrest in a motor vehicle, failure to identify/false identification, tampering with a government document, fraudulent use of identifying information, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

That's a grand total of 8 charges Miles is facing!  I guess he just felt like going all out!

So if you saw a helicopter circling around the sky yesterday, this was why right here!

Amarillo Police officially reports:

APD officers were sent to the area of the 100 block of N. Virginia to meet Randall County Sheriff’s Deputies, who had located a silver Ford F250 Ford pickup that was reported stolen through their agency. When APD officers tried to stop the vehicle, it sped away. The officer initially pursued the vehicle but discontinued a short time later due to the driver’s erratic driving. The Department of Public Safety helicopter monitored the vehicle, and other APD units attempted to follow and keep visual contact with the stolen vehicle and driver as it continued south on Western, west on IH-40, south on Bell, west on 45th, and eventually to the Wal-Mart parking lot on Coulter. The DPS helicopter was able to tell a responding officer where the suspect and vehicle were on the parking lot. A uniformed officer saw the suspect step from the vehicle and run into the store. The suspect was tucking or holding something in his waistband. The officer pursued the man as he ran through the store. The officer saw the man pushing his way by employees, and being chased by employees who saw the foot chase. Then man ran through the store before exiting to the back lot, and fell behind an electrical service box. The witnesses that had been chasing the man then ran, yelling to the officer that the man had a gun. The officer drew his gun and approached. The suspect had a semi-automatic handgun in his hand. He dropped the weapon when ordered to do so by the officer. The officer held the man at gunpoint until an assisting DPS trooper and other officers arrived and the man was taken into custody. The loaded 9mm handgun was recovered. The suspect was found to be in possession of identifying documents that were not his, credit cards that were not his, and narcotics.

I had several listeners and friends that were eye witnesses to portions of the incident.  In fact, Tommy the Hacker's wife saw the Ford truck jumping curbs and attempting to escape from the police!

With all the stories coming out of Amarillo alone, there should be no doubt in your mind that crime is on the increase, mainly in part of the holidays.  Crime always increases in the holiday season!  The best advice I can give you is this, don't give anyone a chance to make you a victim!  Protect yourself!  I'm not saying carry around a gun or anything like that!  Just saying, lock your car doors, lock your house up, make sure all the windows are locked.  Don't leave your car running while you run into a convenience store to buy a quick drink!  Don't leave your personal items lying in your car!  Don't give a crook the chance to turn you into a crime victim!  The more you do to protect yourself, the better the odds of you having a safe and happy holiday are!
