With coronavirus on the rise in the Texas panhandle Starbucks has brought back its free coffee promotion for first responders and health care workers. Now through December 31, "any customer who identifies as a front-line responder to the COVID-19 outbreak" will receive a free tall brewed coffee, hot or iced.

“It has been an extraordinarily difficult year, especially for the front-line responders who are serving our communities,” said Virginia Tenpenny, Starbucks vice president for Global Social Impact, in a statement Tuesday. “We want to show our deep gratitude for those who support and protect us every day with a small gesture of kindness and a cup of coffee.”

Earlier during the pandemic, Starbucks was one of the first companies to offer a freebie for those working on the front line. Starbucks said they served more than 2 million free cups of coffee between March and the end of May. The company also reports on the ir website that the Starbucks Foundation has donated more than one million dollars since March to support front-line responders with the delivery of personal protective equipment, essential medical items, care packages and handwritten letters as well as mental health resources.

Starbucks says those eligible for the free tall coffee offer are front-line health care providers and first responders include: doctors, nurses, public health workers, pharmacists, dispatchers, firefighters, paramedics, police officers, dentists and dental hygienists, mental health workers, hospital staff such as janitors, housekeeping/security, and active-duty military.

Also Starbucks launched its annual "Starbucks for Life" contest. Through Jan. 4, prizes totaling nearly $3 million are up for grabs, according to the official rules.
