August 5th, 2013, Amarillo Police officers were dispatched to 824 Virginia where on a shooting.  Mathew Guzman was found lying on the living room floor with a gunshot wound to his upper body.  He was transported to the hospital, where he later died.  10 days later, APD officers arrest Jarrod Heath Jones for involvement in the homicide.

"Preliminary autopsy results indicate Mathew Guzman died from a gunshot wound to the upper body. On August 13, officers of the COPPS Unit arrested Jarrod Heath Jones. Jones had warrants for Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Tampering with Evidence. These warrants were issued as a result of Jones’ involvement in the case where Mathew Guzman was shot and killed. Jones also possessed a little over eight grams of meth and was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was transported and booked into the Potter County Correction Center."
