During a routine traffic stop in Amarillo, an Amarillo Police officer was assaulted by a wanted fugitive while attempting to apprehend the him.

I don't think the cop got hurt that much.  He took a strike to the head by the fugitives elbow, but was still able to get the guy in handcuffs, EVEN after taking a blow to the head!  What does this prove?  Our cops in A-town can take some hits!

"On Friday September 13th at approximately 2:45pm, an APD COPPS officer conducted a traffic stop in the 900 block of S Osage. The officer approached the driver’s door and spoke briefly with the sole occupant. The officer had recognized the driver as being a wanted fugitive and asked him to step out of the car. As the officer was beginning the process of handcuffing the W/M driver, the subject slipped away and took off running. The officer took off after the suspect and caught him a short distance away and a struggle ensued with the suspect fighting with the officer. At one point during the struggle, the suspect managed to elbow strike the officer in the face causing him to become disorientated and dazed. Eventually the officer was able to place the suspect in handcuffs and was placed in the back seat of a patrol car. During the pat down search of the suspect, officers located a small Ziploc baggie containing a crystal substance believed to meth, a digital scale, and two folding pocket knives. A search of the vehicle revealed a stolen Ruger 9mm pistol in the console. The driver was identified as Kelly Dean Brown W/M 28. Mr. Brown was arrested and transported to Potter County Correction Center where he was booked on the following charges, aggravated assault on a public servant, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of firearm by a felon, and an outstanding Randall county warrant for fraud illegal use of a credit card."
