Fatal Accident Saturday Morning
An early morning traffic accident on Saturday claimed the life of one of the drivers, Mary Nancy Encinias. She was driving a Chevy Cobalt, which was struck by a Dodge truck driven by Billy Don Ware. The accident took place at 9th & Pierce in downtown Amarillo. Alcohol and speed are believed to have been a factor in the accident.
"On July 27, 2013 at approximately 12:37 AM, officers were dispatched to 9th and S Pierce on a motor vehicle collision. Officers found that a 2010 Dodge 2500 driven by Billy Don Ware, WM, 37 of Amarillo had been south bound on S. Pierce. The Dodge struck a 2006 Chevy Cobalt driven by Mary Nancy Encinias, WF, 61 of Amarillo. The Chevy had been eastbound on E 9th. Encinias was taken to a local hospital where she later died of injuries sustained in the crash. An autopsy has been ordered by Justice of the Peace Nancy Bosquez. Alcohol and speed are factors in the collision."
Ware was booked into the Potter County Sheriff's Office Jail for Intoxicated Manslaughter. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department.
