1 Suspect Arrested For Shooting Amarillo Man Early Sunday Morning On Lipscomb

Amarillo Police have made 1 arrest in a shooting that took place around 3:00am early Sunday morning in Amarillo.  Police were dispatched to 3616 S Lipscomb where they found the victim, 35 year old Aaron Miller, with a gunshot wound to his upper chest.  It's believed the incident took place after an altercation between Miller, and the suspect, Robert Louis Bennett.  Bennett later located and arrested at a house on the 5600 block of SW 41st. Miller's injuries are reported as non-life-threatening.

Amarillo Police:

"On 12-8-13, at 3:26 AM, officers were sent to 3616 S. Lipscomb on a shooting. The victim, Aaron Miller WM 35, was inside the home. He had what appeared to be a bullet wound in his upper chest. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The injury is not believed to be life-threatening. Officers determined that the victim had been outside the home on the sidewalk when he was shot. Initial information indicates that there had been a physical altercation between the shooting suspect and another man in front of the home some time before the shooting. Both that man and the suspect left the home. The suspect, who is known to the victim, returned a short time later. There was some type of physical or verbal exchange between the suspect and victim at the front of the home. The suspect retrieved a handgun from the vehicle and fired one shot, striking the victim. The suspect then drove away in a black Honda. Officers determined that the suspect was at a home in the 5600 block of SW 41st. There, they found the suspect’s black Honda. Officers could see a 9mm handgun in the vehicle. Officers tried to contact the suspect inside the home. When they could not contact him by phone, they called APD SWAT to assist in securing the home. Officers were finally able to contact the man by phone. He came out of the home at 7:15 AM and was taken into custody. He was Robert Louis Bennett WM 30. He was booked into Randall County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. They also secured a search warrant for the home and vehicle on 41st and recovered the 9mm handgun from the vehicle."
