Kids often go to their parents with ridiculous ideas and are often told no. So it really surprises me that a mom in Georgia not only allowed it, but took her 10 year old son to get tattooed.
People get tattoos for various reasons.  To mark an occasion, to express themselves, or to remember someone.  They are a norm in today's society.

So when 10 year old Gaquan came to his mother and said 'Mom, I want to get a tattoo with Malik on it, rest in peace.'  She had no reason to tell him no.  Right?

For Georgia mom Chuntera Napier, the answer was simple.  She couldn't tell him no since the tattoo was to remember his brother.  Gaquan's brother Malik had been hit by a teenage driver two years ago and was killed.  Unfortunately, Gaquan was with him.

Chuntera, who has tattoos herself, said yes and took her son to a tattoo artist in Smyrna where he got a tattoo with his brother's name and old basketball jersey number.

Now everything would have been fine except that a school official saw the tattoo and contacted police immediately. Officials called Napier's action illegal.  They arrested and charged her with misdemeanor cruelty and being a party to a crime.

"it shall be unlawful for any person to tattoo the body of any person under the age of 18, except for a physician or osteopath..."

So she did break the law.  Napier said she had no idea the law existed and thought parental consent was all that was needed.  She sees nothing wrong with what she did.  She stands firm that she is his mother and knows whats best.

Napier and the tattoo artist are both being investigated.  So what do you think?  Was Napier in the wrong allowing her 10 year old son to get tattooed or is parental consent ok?  Share your thoughts.
