Potter County Sheriff’s Department is warning citizens of a phone scam that is going around the area. A caller claiming to represent the Potter County Sheriff’s office informs would be victims that they missed jury duty, resulting in an arrest warrant. To avoid arrest a payment can be made over the phone.

The call is bogus. The Sheriff’s Department will never call anyone who has missed jury duty or for  any other reason trying to collect money for a fine, or a summons. Testing, Vaccine and Treatment- Beware of offers for "home" test kits and unknown "miracle" cures or vaccines. They do not exist. Scammers are also targeting Medicare recipients by offering COVID-19 testing in an attempt to steal personal information.

Report telephone scams online to the Federal Trade Commission. You can also call 1-877-382-4357. The FTC is the primary government agency that collects scam complaints.
