Amarillo Bestowed Honor By Texas Governor. What Is It?
It's not very often that Amarillo is awarded and honored with something in Texas. Sometimes it can actually feel like we are just a completely forgotten city in such a big state.
However, that has all changed, at least for the moment, because Amarillo has been bestowed an honor that isn't exactly easy to get.
Governor Greg Abbott has declared Amarillo has been designated as a Music Friendly Texas Community. Now, I know you read that and thought to yourself, why is that such a big deal? I thought that myself, then I started digging into it a bit.
It's an honor only 50 or so communities have, and you have to go through quite a process to be able to have this honor bestowed upon your city. Six different steps must be completed in order to even be considered for the honor, and Amarillo has now met all six of those steps.
Music has always been something that has been a big part of Amarillo's roots. Going all the way back to the days when Route 66 was in its heyday, Amarillo has always had a rich music scene. We may not have had any "huge" acts or anything like that come out of the city, but live music has been something you can find in so many different places, especially on the weekend.
There will be an actual ceremony to celebrate our induction to being a Music Friendly Texas Community and it will take place on Monday, November 13 at 4 pm. There will be speakers from the Amarillo community that will share stories of Amarillo's music scene as well as community leaders.
