Amarillo and Canyon Announce Tax Rates For 2025, Most Are Lower
In what has been a very trying year financially for many in Amarillo, we could all use a little good news. Anything to help cut costs a bit would be beyond welcome at this point as we're all looking to save even pennies at this point.
Guess what? I've got some good news. The city and it constituents agree.
Amarillo and Canyon area local governments and school districts announced their tax rates yesterday, and for the most part everyone is coming in lower than they were last year. What this means is that you will see some changes on your property tax bills in 2025.
Ironically, even with the cuts, most taxpayers will see an increase on property taxes. This is due to home valuation increases, but the lower tax rates will at least soften the blow.
There is one exception here and that is the City of Canyon which actually RAISED their tax rate just a touch in order to fund essential services and support growth of the city.
Taking a look at the different tax rates, here's what the changes look like. All of these numbers are based per $100.
Amarillo Independent School District (AISD) down to $0.8830 from $0.9258
Potter County down to $0.58496 from $0.61692
Randall County down to $0.40115 from $0.44015
City of Canyon up to $0.41011 from $0.39286
Amarillo College down to $0.21556 from $0.22031
Amarillo City Council down to $0.38723 from $0.39195
Canyon Independent School District (CISD) up to $0.9577 from $0.93
One thing that stood out to me was the fact that the tax rate is highest within both school systems, but it's not something I'm mad at since that's truly who needs to be able to grow and build the most.
