The most recent numbers released by the Amarillo Health Department show there were only 17 new cases of COVID reported while 23 people have recovered from the virus this past week. That's a drop of six active cases in our fair city! What's even better is that there were zero deaths reported. Gotta love that.

Another sign that things are improving, the hospitalization rate is down a bit from 2.68% of the cases heading to the hospital to 2.59%. That is some good news for our frontline workers who have been seriously tested throughout the pandemic.

Now that we're headed in the right direction, it begs the question: "how do we keep it going in that direction?". There's a couple things we can all do to help it keep moving.

One, if you haven't been vaccinated, please look into getting that done. Many places are now offering the vaccine at this point. Plus, the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine has been re-approved for use, so that's back in the market.

Two, please keep wearing your mask in places you should be wearing one. I know I'm tired of the mask. I seem to be forgetting it in my car a lot more as I approach the door of a business, but I always go back for it. Let's keep 'em on and continue the drive downward!
