There are a ton of different places to eat out here in Amarillo, and it can be hard to decide where to spend our money. We all have our favorites to hit up, whether it's fast food or sit-down, and we tend to revert to those places.

However, sometimes it's good to think outside the box, and for different reasons. There are restaurants out there that do great things for communities, and we have a couple of them here in the city. One of them just did something huge for the Amarillo Fire Department, and it makes me want to give them all my business.

What Restaurant Is Doing Big Things

Firehouse Subs is the restaurant I'm talking about. It was founded by a couple of firefighters in Florida back in the mid-90s, and it's turned into a huge chain found in many places, including right here in Amarillo.

They've always donated portions of their proceeds to a fund to be able to hand out grants to fire departments and help out local firefighters in many ways. I've always loved the concept, and truthfully, I think they have some of the best subs anywhere.

Amarillo Fire Department Receives Huge Grant

Thanks to Firehouse Subs, the Amarillo Fire Department received a grant worth just shy of $25,000, allowing them to upgrade some things and be able to fight the fires here in Amarillo more effectively.

Amarillo Fire Station No. 8 was the recipient of the grant, and they used it to purchase all-new hoses in various sizes that they desperately needed. The hoses are quite durable and last a long time; however, they wear down like anything over time, and the fire department needed them badly. Thanks to Firehouse Subs, they were able to make that happen.
