Amarillo has long been known as a place of opportunity. Now, before you start getting on me saying "opportunity? Yeah right", I want you to think about something. One of the biggest upsides to the city is its cost of living and how much cheaper it is than the majority of the state.

It doesn't stop at just that, owning a business in Amarillo is cheaper than a lot of places in Texas as well. Rent for a building, land to build your own, it's all cheaper. So yes, there is more opportunity here than a lot of places.

Because of that, many move to Amarillo to open a business, and now that has been recognized. A new study by WalletHub shows that Amarillo is a top 15 city when it comes to Hispanic entrepreneurs.

The survey shows that roughly 30% of the businesses in Amarillo are Hispanic-owned. We have a large Hispanic population in Amarillo, and that is a good thing. A large Hispanic population has been known to be good for growth opportunities.

Another good thing about having so many Hispanic-owned businesses is that we have the LOWEST unemployment rate among the Hispanic population in the entire country. Amarillo ranked 12th in the nation in being Hispanic-business friendly and 13th for average length of workday. So not only do these residents own their business, they're happy with their hours of operation.

Eight of the top ten were cities in Florida, and one city in Texas, Laredo, ranked better than Amarillo. The study looked into and rated 182 cities in America.

Amarillo's Cursed Buildings – Historic Route 66, 2813 SW 6th

There are some places around town that just can't seem to stay in business for very long. This is one of them.

The address of the cursed building is 2813 SW 6th Street. This building was originally built in 1930. This place was originally a service station. I'm sure in the heydays of Rt. 66, this place was the place to stop to get your car serviced. However, in the last 15 years, this building has seen many different faces.
