Roads, Parks, and Parking: Amarillo’s July 4 Changes Explained
Fireworks and more are about to engulf Amarillo thanks to the 4th of July. We all love a good fireworks show, or enjoy doing our own fireworks show. Throughout the day, though, there are places to go, people to see, and parties to attend.
Those are not necessarily just family gatherings; the city tends to have a lot going on for the holiday as well. All the different events bring challenges, and with challenges come headaches. What kind of headaches? How about things shutting down early and road closures?
Events & Closures For Friday, July 3
The holiday will bring a couple of days of events for the city, so that means you'll need to work your plans around them. Friday is when it all begins. If you were planning on hanging out at McDonald Lake, know that on Friday at 1 pm, the parking lot and areas around the lake will close. Planning on going to John Stiff Park? They'll be shutting it down at 8:30 pm for the "Ready, Set, Glow" race.
There will also be some road and lane closures you need to be aware of. You won't be able to park on the street at 48th Ave. and Parkside Dr., and one lane will be shut down on 48th Ave. starting at 8:30 pm and reopening around midnight.
Events & Closures For Saturday, July 4
Here we are, the big day. What do you need to know? The Southwest Branch Library parking lot will be closed. Also, residents won't have access to the dumpsters in the parking lot. Going to play some tennis at the Amarillo National Tennis Center? Do it in the morning, as they're closing their doors at noon. The Warford Activity Center? They won't even open the doors on the 4th.
Street parking still won't be allowed at 48th Ave. and Parkside Dr., while 48th Ave. and Bell St. will be blocked off starting at noon, and reopening around 10:15 pm.
