Amarillo K-9 Unit Wins Big at Lubbock Police Competition
With the amount of drug busts that happen here in Amarillo, we have to have a good police squad and intelligence unit in order to work on keeping the city as clean as possible.
When it comes to having the best team, that means all the way down to the K-9 unit. We've heard of several drug busts that have happened at the Greyhound bus station, and those were only possible as the dogs sniffed out the drugs.

K-9 Competition In Lubbock
On June 25th, a competition for the best K-9 dog took place in Lubbock. It was a three-day event that spanned many different categories.
The Lubbock Area Police K-9 Narcotic Detection and Fugitive Apprehension Training and Competition takes place each year, and it highlights the best of the best when it comes to the furry cops who assist in ways humans can't.

Amarillo Has A Strong Showing
With many dogs and units competing against one another, the competition was stiff. After all, they are law enforcement and everything is taken seriously. Competition amongst one another definitely tops the list.
Amarillo and Lubbock have a general competition as cities, so you can imagine how law enforcement probably is with one another. Friendly competition of course, but this time, Amarillo came out on top.
The Awards
Sgt. Cody Lavery and K-9 Sam came out as the big winners of the event as they took down the top prize in Narcotics Detection. My guess? Sam has had a little fun at the Greyhound bus station here.
The cherry on top for the duo? 2nd place in the Patrol K-9 category making it a great day for Amarillo police.
