31 year old Terry Lee Richardson was shot while attempting to break into a vehicle on Wednesday night outside an Amarillo home.  The home owner heard noises, saw his truck's cab light on, and went out to investigate, packing some heat.  When thinking about committing such a crime, remember that we live in Texas, you ought not do that.

"Terry Lee Richardson, 31, was shot and arrested Wednesday after he was caught breaking into a vehicle in Amarillo.

According to Amarillo Police Department, officers responded to a report of an auto burglary in progress in the 1400 block of Knight. As officers were heading to the scene, police were informed that the owner of the vehicle had caught the suspect breaking into his vehicle and was holding him at gunpoint, further reports indicated that a fight had ensued and that a shot had been fired.

Officers later spoke with the owner who stated to police that he had heard noises outside by his vehicle and when he looked out his window, he saw that the interior light of his truck was on. When he went outside to investigate, he brought his pistol with him and found a black male in the cab of his truck.

As the homeowner, attempted to apprehend the suspect they began to fight. According to the homeowner, the suspect then attempted to grab the pistol and the homeowner then fired off one shot toward the suspect. The suspect ran away from the scene.

APD said as officers were investigating the scene reports surfaced of a man attempting to enter a home in the 2400 block of Echo stating he had been shot. Officers responded to the scene and found a man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to the hospital, treated and released. Police identified the man as Richardson and subsequently arrested him and booked him into the Potter County Jail for burglary of a motor vehicle."

According to APD, the incident is still under investigation, not really sure why, but it is.
