An Amarillo Officer’s Bad Decision Ends in Arrest
It's not something we hear about happening often in Amarillo, even though it happens in other places more often than we think. An officer is arrested for doing something wrong.
At the end of the day, police officers are humans just like us. Prone to mistakes and lapses in judgment, and unfortunately, a lapse in judgment has happened with one of our own in the Amarillo Police Department.
What Did The Officer Do
It's something that sadly many of us have done. Grabbed some friends, or just went by ourselves, had a few drinks, then decided to get in the car and head home. Sure, it's ok to have a drink or two and drive yourself home, but only after an hour or two.
Unfortunately, Officer Tre Galvan didn't do the aforementioned steps. The worst-case scenario unfolded for Galvan as he involved someone else in his decision to drive home.
How Did Galvan Get Caught
This wasn't your basic traffic stop on suspicion of DWI. Galvan was driving near Wolflin Ave. and Austin St. when authorities were called out because of a minor traffic accident. Galvan is the one who caused it.
A woman reported that her white Ford was hit by a red truck. That truck was being driven by Galvan. When officers went to speak to Galvan, that was when they noticed signs of intoxication. They took him to the hospital for a blood draw.
What Happens To Galvan Now
After the blood draw, he was booked into the Potter County Jail and ultimately charged with a Class B DWI. According to his record, this was his first offense for something like this.
While the internal and criminal investigations are ongoing, Galvan has been placed on administrative leave until those investigations have concluded.
