Familiar Amarillo Restaurant Abruptly Shuts Their Doors For Good
It's been a year full of closures for businesses in restaurants in Amarillo this year. We've seen some of our favorite places get shut down due to the economy.
This evening however brought a bit of a different reason for our latest restaurant to be shut down, and it's one that's been around for quite a while.
WHO IS IT THIS TIME
I received an email via the station app from a listener who gave me this hot tip. It read as such:
"Just to let you know because I work for Denny's , just to let you know they are closing down Denny's on Georgia the landlord does not want to renew the lease. They closed down today at 2 o’clock."
Denny's on Georgia has been around for quite awhile now, so it's a bit surprising that they are shutting the doors. However, it's not necessarily due to the economy.
WHY DID DENNY'S DECIDE TO SHUT THEIR DOORS
According to our source, a now former employee, there are many repairs that need to be made to the building, and the owner of Denny's simply doesn't want to pay to have to fix what's wrong with the building.
I asked our source what the issues with the building were and they pointed to the roof and AC in the building as the main issues. You may recall that Denny's closed back in early July to fix the roof after being shut down by the health department.
WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE EMPLOYEES
Typically when a business shuts their doors, it means quite a few people are out of a job. There is some good news coming out of this situation.
According to our source, the employees of the Georgia location are moving to their other two locations. One is located on Ross Osage, and the other is in the Flying J truck stop. Employees are being moved to those locations.
