It's something we've seen quite a bit of lately in Amarillo: construction, road work, etc. Those lovely cones all over the city, redirecting the traffic pattern, kicking busy streets down to one lane, and simply closing some roads.

The biggest one lately was Western, where they were installing some new storm drainage pipes. They've gotten that predominantly done, but it doesn't mean the road work is done throughout the city. In fact, there's a whole week of work planned.

Various Lane Closures This Week

Starting Monday, there will be some closures on westbound State Loop 335 at River Road. There will be some patching operations going on that are expected to be finished by Wednesday, Sept. 23. Tuesday brings a couple of projects, one of them being patching work that will close the left and center lanes of I-40 at Nelson St.

Another Tuesday closure will happen in the evening and overnight. The southbound US 87 exit to Canyon will be closed from 7 pm to 6 am. If you're heading into Canyon on Tuesday during this time, you'll have to need to exit at Rockwell Rd. and follow it to the entrance ramp from Country Club Rd.

Wednesday will see westbound SL 335 close some lanes at US 87 for patching. Thursday, the work at I-40 and Nelson St. will be completed, as they'll close the right lane there.

Bell St. to See Work As Well

There will be various lane closures throughout the week in both directions of I-27 from Western St. to Bell St., as they do some patching there as well. Also, this isn't the only time Bell is being mentioned.

According to users on Reddit, a traffic change began today on Bell St., and the guess right now is that it's similar to what they just did on Western St. It sounds like they may be laying some large storm drainage pipe there.
