Starting Monday, one of the most heavily traveled streets in Amarillo will undergo a $2 million facelift.  SW 34th Ave between Coulter and Soncy will be completely ripped up, and new road surface will be laid in this road construction project.

"Beginning Monday, the eastbound side of 34th Avenue will be closed and traffic will be diverted to one lane each direction on the westbound side of the roadway. Access will be maintained to driveways through the duration of the project. Motorists can expect delays through December.

City Engineer Mark Read says this will be a total reconstruction of the road from the ground up to repair the severe cracking that has caused the street to be so rough.  Motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes to their destinations and are asked to drive with extreme caution through the construction area."

The project will include a complete reconstruction of the road surface, subgrade and base material, as well as the necessary curb and gutter, concrete traffic islands and striping.
