Winter hasn't exactly felt like winter in Amarillo, or really anywhere in the Texas Panhandle, for that matter. We've had so many days in the 60s and 70s, I've forgotten what month we're in. Now, I'm not complaining about this one bit. I love the milder winter.

However, that's all about to change. The winter weather is expected to arrive sooner than you're probably thinking.

Here Comes The Cold...And Snow

Temperatures on Friday aren't expected to get past 43 degrees, and we will see those temps take a very sharp downturn in Amarillo. According to projections, we will see the temps drop dramatically around 2 pm. We will find ourselves below freezing at 3 pm, then the real fun begins.

Snow...it's coming. Amarillo is predicted to see snowfall for potentially four hours on Friday. How much is the big question, as models have been a bit different across the board.

How Bad Will The Snow Be

Some areas of the Texas Panhandle could see between 3 and 7 inches of snowfall, which means there's more than enough to go out and make yourself a snowman. The northwest areas of the Panhandle are who is expected to see that kind of accumulation.

As for Amarillo? Well, they're saying the central Panhandle will get anywhere from a trace of snow to three inches. However, one thing they are anticipating it blizzard-like conditions. It doesn't mean we will get the deluge of snow that comes with a blizzard, but the conditions, as far as wind, visibility, etc., will be present, so stay safe!
