Amarillo Grocery Steps Up With Huge Sock Donation
Amarillo is known as a place where the community helps each other out in so many different ways. Many different charity events happen throughout the year, and many philanthropic efforts take place even without an event in place.
We've seen how the community bands together firsthand with Help 4 The Holidays each year, and the generosity is mind-blowing. Now, one of our biggest businesses in town is doing something amazing tomorrow, February 23rd.
Big Sock Donation
United Supermarkets, one of the biggest entities in Amarillo, is set to make an indelible mark on the community. They're donating socks...a bunch of them. 1,000 pairs of socks are set to be donated to the Salvation Army thanks to a promotion the grocer ran.
The donation is slated to take place on Tuesday, February 24, at 2 pm at the United Supermarket location at 3552 S. Soncy Road.
Why Are They Donating Socks
The sock donation is for the homeless. We all know that heat rises, and if our feet get cold, our body struggles to warm up. The donation is being made through United Supermarkets Apples & Pears on Mission initiative. Through the fall and winter, United said that a portion of the proceeds from each purchase of Rainier apples and pears would go towards the initiative.
Now, it's time to pay it off. Not only will 1,000 pairs be donated here in Amarillo, but it will also stretch across the Texas Panhandle. 5,000 pairs of socks will be distributed equally across Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, Wichita Falls, and Abilene.
