A couple of weeks ago, we found out that two different buildings in Amarillo were up for some awards with Downtown Texas. The new Amarillo City Hall and the sparkling new Potter County Justice Building.

There was an excitement wrapped around these two buildings, considering Amarillo doesn't usually get this kind of recognition. Sometimes we feel like a blip on the radar in the giant state we live in, but this time, we were seen in a big way.

A Recap Of The Contest

The contest, sponsored and put on by Downtown Texas, announced its finalists two weeks ago in all of their categories. Amarillo City Hall landed in the Best Restoration Award category, while the new Potter County Justice Building earned itself a nod in the Best New Construction category.

Members of the Downtown Texas crew voted on each category to decide which buildings should be taking home the proverbial hardware. It was definitely nice to have a couple of chances to pull down something, but being in Amarillo, we were a bit skeptical of winning anything.

And The Winner Is...

Well, the winners have officially been announced, as they said they would be at The Texas Downtown Association Conference. Surprise! Amarillo did indeed pull down some hardware, and we couldn't be prouder as a city.

It was the Amarillo City Hall restoration that was the winner of the prestigious President’s Award for Best Restoration. It's an award that the city has never won, so without a doubt, that trophy will be proudly on display inside the building as a reminder of a job well done.
