It's not an uncommon occurrence for businesses to close or even shut down temporarily in Amarillo.

We've seen places close their doors to remodel, and we've also seen places shut down simply because they didn't pay their rent and get evicted.

We've also seen restaurants get closed temporarily after reviews from the health department so they can clean up some issues, however, it's rare that we see the state health department roll in and shut down a business that ISN'T a restaurant.

Who Did Texas Shut Down

There is a little strip mall on 45th and Bell that is home to many different businesses. United Supermarkets is the centerpiece of the strip mall, but there are a myriad of businesses there. Restaurants, Goodwill, and other small places.

One of those businesses is the Family Reflexology massage parlor. Well, they won't be operating anything out of the business as the health department has forced them to close their doors immediately for a minimum of six months.

Why Did They Force Them To Close Their Doors

While there is no official word, the health department clearly found something that concerned them enough to cease operations there. A sign posted on the door states "Notice of Closure: Emergency Order" in big red letters.

Another line in the order states "to protect public health and safety". So what exactly happened that made the state close it so abruptly? That we aren't sure of right now, but it's possible we will find out soon.

What Does The Notice Say

It doesn't give us anything specific as to why it's shut down, but it does give us specifics on how long it needs to remain closed. It reads,

"This business has been ordered to shut down for a period of 6 months. All massage establishment business and operations at this location must stop immediately."

It's tough to figure out what the issue may have been, but it was clearly bad enough to make the health department make them shut their doors right away, and for an extended period of time. We'll keep an eye on things.
