It's been confirmed, another hometown hero, soldier, husband, father and friend died in active duty while serving in Afghanistan.  Sgt. Robert J. Billings was killed Saturday when his unit was attacked.

The Department of Defense has confirmed that Billings was killed when his unit was attacked with an improvised explosive device (IED).

He leaves behind a wife and children here in Amarillo.

Billings lived in Clarksville, VA. According to the DOD, Sgt. Billings was assigned to the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA.

Another terrible loss of an Amarillo HERO!  May Sgt. Billings rest in piece.  Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
