APD Says One Sexual Assault Reported In Amarillo Per Week In 2016

According to the Amarillo Police Department, there has been at least one sexual assault reported every week so far this year.

Potter County has one of the highest crime rates in Texas and an extremely high number of rape cases. Police experts have said that 90% of sexual assault happens between people who already know each other. However, the threat of sex trafficking is especially pertinent in Amarillo. The popularity of dating apps also serves as an opportunity to be put in danger.

According to APD, many of the sexual assault cases in Amarillo involve children.

If there has been one case per week in 2016, that means that at least 9 people have been sexually assaulted since January 1st.
