Ariana Grande’s ‘God Is a Woman’ Is Probably About Sex, You Guys
Ariana Grande's ELLE interview delivered a number of gems this morning (July 11), from revelations about her surprisingly goth adolescence to the pop star's perspective on political discourse in 2018. But folded between the interview's high-profile topics was a brief but revealing little excerpt about the singer's forthcoming second single off Sweetener, "God Is a Woman."
Speaking to ELLE about her Last Judgement-themed Met Gala gown, Grande called the design "a foreshadow, a hint" of the upcoming video for "God Is a Woman" — which also just so happens to be Grande's grandma Nonna's favorite song off the record.
"The second single is her 92-year-old grandma Nonna’s favorite song from the new album. By name alone, I peg the track to be a feel-good Women’s-March–y anthem, something along the lines of Katy Perry’s 'Roar' set to an R&B beat," ELLE wrote of the track, adding, "I hear it a few weeks later. Hoo boy, was I wrong. Let’s just say it’s more about taking agency in the bedroom than at the office. Nonna, you’re so naughty!"
That's right, Ariantors: It seems "God Is a Woman" is all about sexy time in the boudoir. Hallelujah! And if you were expecting a female self-empowerment anthem about the inherent celestial goddess-like powers of womanhood, it is — just in a more, uh, intimate sense.
As Grande herself tweeted after sharing some lyrics from the track on Twitter today:
P---y power, indeed.
"God Is a Woman" is out July 20.
