ATM Heist in Amarillo Feels Straight Out of a Movie
Last night, I was watching the movie 'Barbershop' starring Ice Cube and a myriad of others, and at the beginning of the movie, there is a scene where two guys ram a truck into the back of a convenience store and steal an ATM.
However, I didn't think it would actually happen, and in Amarillo no less. Maybe it wasn't the exact scene out of the movie, but believe it or not, ATM machines are being stolen here, and it's mind-blowing that it's happening.

One Successful Theft
There have been two reported cases involving different machines in different places. One of them was a success, the other not so much. Regardless, it's stunning that someone would even think they could utilize the machine if they ended up with a successful heist.
The successful attempt came in the form of an ATM being taken from the Pine Shed bar on October 30th. Thieves broke into the building, snagged the ATM somehow, and got away with it. Police did, however, recover the stolen ATM the same day. Clearly, the thieves realized they couldn't break into it as easily as they thought.
One Thwarted Attempt
A couple of weeks later, on November 10th, a suspect went into a convenience store on 34th and Coulter and attempted to steal one of those big gaming machines that have been popping up around town. That particular suspect was unsuccessful in getting any free games.
Police are currently searching for the suspects in both cases and have also asked store owners to make sure those types of machines are properly secured to avoid more potential thefts. If you have any info that could lead to an arrest, you're encouraged to reach out to APD or Amarillo Crime Stoppers at 806-374-4400.
