Things on The View got a little heated yesterday.  While reporting on a story Barbara Walters used the N-word.

So here's what happened.  Earlier this week, it was reported that a hunting camp connected to Presidential Candidate Rick Perry contained a racial slur.  The camp actually had a rock that had the words "Ni***rhead Hunting Camp" written on it.  In defense, Perry stated that his family never named the camp, they just leased it.  The rock has been painted over but the question arises, how long ago?

Well during a Political interview, fellow candidate Herman Cain was asked how he felt.  He was not shy about voicing his opinion and he even shocked many as he said the actual word.  He called Perry "insensitive."

Back in the day there were many products that contained the n-word in the brand name including stove polish, oysters, soap, and more.  Not that it makes it ok, but it was the norm.

So this brings us to The View incident.  While discussing the issue, Whoopi Goldberg used the word and went on to say that she had no problem with anyone saying it.  It's a word and you cannot pretend like it doesn't exist.  Barbara Walters then began talking about the issue and she too said the n-word.  As soon as she did that Sherri Sheperd jumped in.  She basically told Mrs. Walters that she had a problem with her saying the N-word because she is white.

While she had no problem with Whoopi saying it and even admitted to using it herself, she said Barbara used a different connotation when using it.  Now Barbara did not call anyone the N-word, she was simply reporting the story. She even went on to say that she believed nobody should use that word.

So I say what's the big deal?  I can understand the outrage if she was calling someone the word, but reporting on an issue, especially a political issue, I see no problem with it.  It's a double standard.  Blacks can use it, but no other race can.  So what do you think?  Did Sherri Sheperd over react, or is she justified in her reaction?
