Amarillo is not a place that's shy about holding different events for various reasons. We've seen many different rallies, protests, and awareness events over the years, and it seems the number grows every year.

These are always fun events to attend, but they all hold a certain purpose, and it's typically a very important purpose. They're intended to bring awareness, support, and celebrations.

Big Texas Rally for Recovery This Weekend

Recently, there was an event held to bring awareness to overdosing and the importance of Narcan. This rally kind of falls in the same vein in certain ways, and it should be a really fun rally with a strong message.

The Big Texas Rally for Recovery is back after a successful launch last year. This year's event will take place on Saturday, September 6, at the Southwest Church of Christ.

What Is The Rally For

Last year, over 800 people attended the rally, and it was a rousing success. This year, they hope even more will attend the event. The message? Recovery is possible. Many people struggle with addiction to various things, drugs and alcohol being the biggest ones. However, it doesn't mean you can't turn things around and shed addiction.

I would know. I wasn't addicted to drugs or alcohol, but to smokeless tobacco. I began with it when I was 17, and finally was able to shake the habit two years ago. It took me 26 years to do it, but I did it. Sure, there are times I still crave it or just want a dip, but I've managed to avoid it.

What To Expect At The Rally

There will be a lot going on at the rally, including a free dinner at 5 pm, live bands, food trucks, a peer-recovery coach, and so much more. There will also be recovery speakers throughout the entire event to tell their story.

The event is free to attend and will run from 2-7 pm.

Say You're From Amarillo Without Saying You're From Amarillo

Amarillo is a pretty quirky place. We've got the Big Texan, the weird signs, and (obviously) the famed Cadillac Ranch. But more than that, there's a distinct culture of close-knit community, eccentrics, a thriving arts scene, and much more.

The point is, living in Amarillo is a unique experience. Because of that, it's really pretty easy to tell who's a native or a long-time resident. And I can prove it.

Here's a couple of ways you can say you're from Amarillo.....without saying you're from Amarillo.
