Is The Borger Sportsplex Actually Going To Be Built?
Well there's nothing like a "is it or isn't it" kind of question here in the Texas Panhandle. We've seen it with the Kids Inc. complex, where for the longest time we were worried it was never going to get off the ground.
The good news is, it's getting ready to break ground. We've heard and seen about the new Hereford sports complex that's opening, so we know that one is a go. However, there is one more that has been rumored to be built, but there's a lot of questions wrapped around it.
There was news announced that Borger was going to be getting a big $100 million sports plex and it was supposed to be state of the art. There have been a lot of questions wrapped around the project, as well as a lot of different rumors that it wasn't ever going to get built.
BoomTown Multi Dome Sports Complex was announced and unveiled back in May 2024 to the public, but since then, there have been a lot of rumors floating around that it was all a farce.
The project has been projected to bring in nearly $75 million per year into the city and panhandle area once it's up and running. The project is estimated to have approximately a five year build time once work has begun.
However, some are now questioning whether or not the whole project is real and if it's going to happen. Some have said they can see the dome already up in the city, but one user on Reddit commented the dome they're seeing has been there for decades.
So long in fact that Terry Funk wrestled at it.
Several people on Reddit are claiming now that the whole thing is a scam and is never going to be built. I'm not here saying I believe them because there are no sources or concrete evidence this is true.
One person point out a $100,000 payment was made to the company building the dome so they could start work on it, but a user is claiming that was part of the scam.
I'm not here to say I believe anything one way or the other. The city announced it, and unless they tell us otherwise, I think we have to assume the project is a go. However, I am a little intrigued by all the rumors and whether or not they have any kind of concrete evidence it's not happening.
All we can do is wait.
