Calvin Harris Spends a Fifth Year Atop Highest-Paid DJ’s List
As ranked by Forbes, Calvin Harris once again comes in as the highest-paid DJ in the game for the fifth year in a row. The producer, who released his latest album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 on June 30, earned what Reuters reports as $48.5 million between June 2016 and June 2017.
In second place for the last five years as well, trailing behind Harris like a slightly-less-rich puppy, comes Tiesto with $39 million in the same period. The real shock — or unfortunate news, depending on your personal opinions — is that jumping up to number three is The Chainsmokers, coming in at a cool $38 million.
The list, which uses data from Nielsen Soundscan and touring trackers like Bandsintown and Pollstar, highlights what we could have guessed about the top earners in dance music — of the 10 names included, nearly all were male and white, hailing from the United States or Europe. Good news for white dudes, less exciting for anyone who believes in the gender and race pay gaps.
