The hits just keep coming in Amarillo when it comes to businesses closing. The most recent one happened on Sunday, and it was a bit of a surprise for many.

It's one of those places where you tend to book things out in advance, so some are scrambling to put something together to cover for the surprise closing.

Who Shut Their Doors This Time

It had been mentioned several different times as a candidate to close, and rumors had run that it was coming. However, the time has officially come to say goodbye to Chuck E. Cheese.

One of the last few locations with the animatronics in it has officially called it a day, and they won't be opening the doors again.

Why Is Chuck E. Cheese Closing

There have been several rumors that have floated around in the past. Not making enough money, not enough people going, etc. All the typical reasons.

One new rumor that I saw was that the rent had been raised, and in the end, it didn't make sense to keep it open, as the raise in rent would've eaten into the profits too much.

What Happens To Birthday Parties That Were Booked

Sadly, it means they're canceled and you'll have to find something else to do. The worst part is that there are probably a few that were set up for this week or weekend, so those people will now have to scramble to figure out what to do.

If you had to put a deposit down or anything for the party, there's no word yet on how to get that back. It's possible that your card is just refunded, but it may be best to reach out to Chuck E. Cheese corporate for guidance.

Monthly Memberships

Chuck E. Cheese offered monthly memberships, and many took advantage of those. Again, there is no word on how those will be handled, especially since they're on a contract basis.

There is a good likelihood that members will just have those membership contracts terminated, but someone did mention they were worried about them saying they're still valid since there's another CEC location in Lubbock. Time will tell what happens to those.

UPDATE: According to Alejandra Brady, Senior Director, Head of PR, Crisis & DEI for Chuck E. Cheese,

"(W)e are automatically cancelling Memberships and Passes for our Amarillo guests and giving everyone pro-rated refunds. Once the process is complete, we will be reaching out to guests, too."
