City of Amarillo Creates Shanna Peeples Day [ VIDEO]

After being names National Teacher of the Year, Shanna Peeples returned to Amarillo with a huge welcome.  A welcome so big, she now has a day in her honor.

Shanna Peeples has had a whirlwind of a life these past few weeks.  She has endured everything from pep rallies, to commercials and even one-on-one discussions with President Barak Obama.  Mrs. Peeples came back to work Monday.  This was her first time being back in her classroom in weeks.

Not only did she come back to a classroom full of kids excited to see her, but she got an unexpected surprise.  Mayor Harpole declared Monday, May 11th Shanna Peeples Day!  He dedicated the day, not only to Peeples, but the legacy she stands for in the Amarillo community.

When asked about her expierence, she said: “I'm just so happy to be back and to shed light on my students and to shed light on the other teachers in Amarillo."
