City Of Amarillo To Make Improvements To Animal Control
After Amarillo Police conducted a lengthy investigation of Amarillo Animal Control, the City of Amarillo plans to rehabilitate practices of the department. Euthanasia has resumed at the facility under the watch of a licensed veterinarian.
A walk on scale has also been added, so correct dosage for animals can be computed for the procedure.
"During the council’s work session, City Manager Jarrett Atkinson provided information about improvements made at the Animal Control shelter, which has lately been under fire for alleged inhumane practices.
“How can we think it’s right, doing what we’ve been doing?” Mayor Paul Harpole asked.
In his report, Atkinson noted improvements completed or in progress to the shelter and its operations."
This all came after allegations involving the operation and standards practiced in euthanasia, after a video of an employee performing euthanasia of a dog hit the Internet. A video that upset many viewers and disturbed many others...
