Coffee Memorial Needs Platelets

It's something that's so selfless yet many of us have never done it. Maybe we've done it in the past but we don't think about it at all. Maybe it's because it doesn't get advertised, or maybe it's we feel our time is too precious to take an hour out of it to do this.

Coffee Memorial Blood Center is always looking for donors here in Amarillo, and it's because we don't get out and donate the way we used to.

I remember as a kid how often my parents would go give blood, and as I became a young adult, I started to do it as well. Admittedly, I've slowed down in donating as life has gotten busy, and that's no excuse. People are in need of it to live.

Yes, us taking an hour out of our busy days literally saves peoples lives. Coffee Memorial is back at it again, but this time, it's not necessarily blood they need.

The supply of blood platelets is extremely low at the moment, and they're calling on donors to step up and help replenish the supply. Platelets are what helps clotting and excessive bleeding in people.

Hospitals rely on doing platelet transfusions to support those patients undergoing things such as chemotherapy, major surgeries, organ transplants, of various illnesses. Platelets also have a very short shelf life, lasting only 4-5 days after the donation.

By coming in to donate, not only are you helping save lives, but you're walking out with a little something for your time. They'll hand you a "Stand Tall and Donate" t-shirt as you head out the door.

I love Google. It can literally answer ANYTHING you need it to answer. Whether it's right or wrong is a totally different question.

Recently, I found myself wondering about something and went to Google. And that's when I started noticing the "people also asked..." section and BOY...Some of them made perfect sense, some of them were interesting, and one of them was downright baffling...and it was a top 10 question which is even more absurd.

Say You're From Amarillo Without Saying You're From Amarillo

Amarillo is a pretty quirky place. We've got the Big Texan, the weird signs, and (obviously) the famed Cadillac Ranch. But more than that, there's a distinct culture of close-knit community, eccentrics, a thriving arts scene, and much more.

The point is, living in Amarillo is a unique experience. Because of that, it's really pretty easy to tell who's a native or a long-time resident. And I can prove it.
