I don't know what it is about Amarillo and smuggling things into prisons for inmates, but it seems to be happening a bit more often than we've ever heard before. It was just a few weeks ago that we heard about a couple of people being sentenced in Amarillo for doing this.

Now, we've got an entirely different person out of Lubbock who was managing to get things inside the walls of another prison here in Amarillo. Ironically, it was the same exact prison that was getting things snuck inside with the other two people.

What Was Getting Snuck Into The Amarillo Prison

One of the items was exactly the same, meth. It makes a bit of sense, I mean, many of the people in prison here are in for drugs. Whether they were dealers or users, it's a popular thing for them to want or need. Some use it for barter, others use it themselves.

The other thing getting smuggled in? Cell phones. Now, this one intrigues me, because how in the world are you actually able to get away with using it and hiding it when cell checks are done? I mean, that's not something easily hidden.

Who Was Arrested For Getting It Inside

Jasmine Sweargin, a 30-year-old Lubbock woman, was arrested and charged with prohibited item in a correctional facility. That is a third-degree felony, and she could be sentenced to 2 to 10 years in prison if found guilty.

This goes back to 2024 after an investigation into contraband making it inside the Clements unit.
