Looking through Facebook, I came across a post announcing sign-ups for the Amarillo Film Festival. I learned that not only do we have a film festival, but this is its second year.

While you may not know it, we do have a community of filmmakers in the area. So having a festival that highlights their work is only fitting.

The Amarillo Film Festival describes itself as:

The 2nd annual Amarillo Film Festival is the areas only and most unique interactive showcase of stories, talent and art from the Panhandle of Texas. Experience local community, industry panel discussions and films from the areas leading filmmakers.

We have seen several filmmakers from our area in the news who have made award winning films and documentaries.

The Amarillo Film Festival isn't until April, but they are accepting submissions right now. You can check out their criteria for submissions by clicking here, if you or someone you know might be interested.

Amarillo is a weird place. We have more than our fair share of artists, musicians, writers, filmmakers, poets, comedians, and every other form of the arts you can imagine. You'd never know it though by just driving through.

Hell, I know people who have lived here for most of their life and they have no idea. So now that you know, get out and support local artists.

If you are a local artist, get involved.
