Another day, another drug bust in Amarillo. It seems like these days we can't get through a full week without hearing of another major drug bust in the city. Small ones happen every day in nearly every city.

But when we're talking full trunk loads of drugs being found, those SHOULD be few and far between, especially for a small city like us. Alas, it is not, and this one will boggle the mind just a bit.

The bust happened on October 16 during a basic traffic stop on I-40.

One would think that if you were smuggling drugs, you'd be doing everything you can in order to follow every rule of the road. The last thing you want to do is commit a traffic violation that will get you stopped.

That's exactly what happened in this one. The driver of a Toyota Camry failed to use his turn signal as he was turning right on to S. Eastern St. off I-40. Thanks to this, police decided to conduct a traffic stop.

The driver, Julian Mendoza Arenivar, was asked for permission to search the vehicle by the deputies conducting the stop. He granted them permission to do so.

What did they find in the trunk? Four cardboard boxes, and they were all full of large black bags. Now, he COULD have been going to a party and those were the goody bags they were going to hand out, but police suspected that wasn't the case.

Instead, they found a whopping 114 POUNDS of meth inside those bags. That holds a street value of roughly $5 million. Suffice to say, if he was indeed going to a party, he didn't make it. Police have charged Mendoza Arenivar with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
