At approximately 12:20am this morning there were shots at the 1100 block of NW 16th in Amarillo.  Officers were dispatched, and upon arrival, a vehicle pursuit began.  Officers pursued a gold Chevrolet Impala and stopped it, and another vehicle, a blue Oldsmobile Delta 88.  Officers began to investigate, and located a man with a gunshot wound to his leg at an Amarillo hospital.  All stemming from a verbal argument at a convenience store.

"On Sunday August 25th, at 12:20am, officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of NW 16th on a report of shots being fired and that one person had been shot. Upon arrival, officers were directed to a vehicle that was leaving the scene. Officers pursued a gold Chevrolet Impala and stopped it and another vehicle a blue Oldsmobile Delta 88 that appeared to with the Impala. Officers stopped the vehicles in the 1500 block of N. Fannin. Officers secured all the occupants of the vehicles and began their investigation. A victim was later located at an area hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. Officers were able to determine that the victim and some of his friends were at a nearby convenience store and were in a verbal argument with some other male subjects. The victim and his friends decided to leave and noticed that they were being followed. The cars ended up stopping in the 1100 block of NW 16th and continued their verbal arguing. At one point, an unidentified suspect reportedly retrieved a firearm and began shooting at the occupants. One B/M 20 was struck in the leg and later taken to an area hospital by private conveyance. Officers collected numerous shell casings from the block along with 2 different firearms from the Oldsmobile. The victim was later taken to a Lubbock hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries. One occupant of the Chevrolet Impala was taken into custody and charged with Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon. Christopher Eugene Irabor B/M 24 was booked into the Potter County Correction Center."

The incident remains under investigation.
