Over the past months, we have heard of a variety of celebrities entering rehab.  But hearing that Gerard Butler has been in rehab for weeks, shocked me.

I guess you really can't tell when some people have an addiction.  Sure some are clear as day.  I would have never guessed that Gerard Butler had a problem.  Unfortunately he did.

TMZ reported that Butler has been at the Betty Ford Center, being treated for substance abuse. Butler's problems began while shooting "300" in 2006.  The actor began struggling with pain management, and the problem became exacerbated while filming "Of Men and Mavericks," when Butler was badly hurt on December 18 during a surfing accident.

According to TMZ,  Butler realized he was relying too much on prescription drugs and decided to head off a full-blown addiction by entering Betty Ford three weeks ago.

Other sources said Butler also developed issues with cocaine, but the root problem appears to be the injuries and pain management.

It seems like in today's society, the biggest abuse problem is with prescription drugs.  Hopefully, he can overcome this problem and continue with his success.

He is expected to be released from the Betty Ford Center some time today.
