It's something that the Texas Panhandle doesn't have enough of, and I could never understand why. We have a couple of baseball/softball complexes in Amarillo and one in Canyon, but outside of that, baseball fields are barren.

Kids Inc. has been working on securing the funding for their giant sports complex project, but funding has stalled out a bit and left them a touch short to be able to begin building.

While it may not be AS expansive as the Kids Inc. project, the City of Hereford started putting together the concept for a giant baseball complex in the city.

Unlike the Kids Inc. project, voters approved $3 million to be spent from the Hereford Economic Development Corporation to begin work on the project. Furthermore, the City of Hereford committed $3 million to the project as well as an additional $500,000 from hotel tax collections.

Well that project is nearing completion and by spring, you'll get to see and hear all the kids out there playing some baseball on the beautiful, all-turf fields. No doubt there will be some baseball tournaments that will take place there, which means I'm sure you'll see me out there with my boys soon enough.

With it being so close to completion, there's definitely one thing missing, and that's a name for the complex. I mean, any good sports complex is immediately recognizable by name right?

Today at 2 pm at those fields located at 525 Kingwood St, next to the Caviness Sportsplex, we will find out that name. The press conference will be held on one of the four brand new fields and they will unveil the name to what will surely be a huge revenue driver for the city of Hereford.
