7 Hip-Hop Songs That Name-Drop Jeopardy Host Alex Trebek
Pop culture and hip-hop have always gone hand-in-hand, with references to famous TV shows and the personalities that host them are all over the genre's history. Alex Trebek, the host of the long-running game show Jeopardy, is one of the more beloved figures, especially with the way trivia about hip-hop is included in the show many times. In addition to that, Alex is a rap fan, rapping the lyrics to songs from Lil Wayne and Kanye West on the show, or spitting Drake's verse from "Jumpman."
Earlier this year, Trebek announced that he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and entered remission months later, but his diagnosis has worsened recently. He took some time off then returned to his job, but recently shared a new update about his health. Trebek's cancer was in remission and he had undergone his first round of chemo, but suddenly lost a lot of weight. "I lost about 12 pounds in a week," he shared today (Spet. 17), on Good Morning America. "My numbers went sky high, much higher than they were when I was first diagnosed. So, the doctors have decided that I have to undergo chemo again."
It seemed that Trebek's prognosis was improving, but this update shows that his battle with pancreatic cancer will continue to wage on. As a showing of support to him in this tough time, XXL has compiled some of the time's Trebek has been name-dropped and honored over years in rap songs.
