
Amarillo Urgently Needs Host Families for Foreign Students
It's something that has been a part of schooling for a very long time, and it's relatively present in the state of Texas.
Foreign exchange students. Those wanting to learn and explore a new country. Many from the United States have traveled abroad, and vice versa. However, these types of programs aren't possible without host families.
What Is A Host Family
It's exactly as it sounds. You take in the foreign exchange student into your home and make them a part of the family for however long they're here.
They feed the student as if they were their own child, help them adapt to the culture and their new surroundings, provide them with transport when needed, and generally treat them as one of their own children.
Do Foreign Exchange Students Find Their Way To Amarillo
Sure, they do! With Amarillo College and West Texas A&M University here, along with the bevy of great high schools that have foreign exchange student programs, there are plenty of programs and opportunities for foreign exchange students.
In fact, it's an ideal place for may to come due to it not being too overwhelming from a big city standpoint and they can slowly integrate into the culture while settling into their studies and feel comfortable doing so.

With the school year rapidly approaching, the need for host families is at the forefront.
Homes for these high school-aged students, between the ages of 15-18, are needed, and I can promise you it'll be one of the most rewarding things you do.
Requirements To Be A Host Family
So this isn't something for everyone. Yes, there are things you need to pass and requirements that must be met in order to be a host family.
First things first, you must be 25 years of age or older. You need to be able to provide three meals per day for the student, not be on government assistance, and be able to pass a rigorous background check.
