As we roll into the summer season, most of us start breaking out the lawnmowers and weed-eaters to care for our lawn.  I say "most", because not everyone does.  All citizens should keep in mind that the City of Amarillo municipal code requires property owners to keep all grass and weed areas shorter than 8 inches in height.  On a side note, maintaining your lawn and uncultivated vegetation, such as weeds, cuts down the risk of having disease carrying insects, like mosquitoes, on your property!

If you get a letter from the city that is a notice of violation, you've got 10 days to mow your lawn!  Failing to do so will cause the city to come out and mow it for you...you don't want that!  You'll be billed for the services provided, in addition to an administrative fee.

If you're one of "those people" that like to rat out the ones that aren't maintaining their lawn, you can be a nark and contact the city. To report tall grass or weeds in your neighborhood, visit the City of Amarillo online (link provided below) and from the “Quick Links” menu, select “Community Connection” and then “Make a Request.” From there, you can choose “Weed/Junk Issue” to report the problem. You may also call 806-378-3041 for more information.

I feel like I just ratted someone out just by providing that information.
