If you generally eat healthy and try to avoid junk food, you may have found it tough to stay on track during the coronavirus pandemic. Most of us unfortunately have become familiar with the terms "quarantine 15" or the "covid 19" - both referring to the amount of extra pounds some of us have put on while being stuck at home more. As National Junk Food Day comes and goes, we know that snacking is one of every worker's favorite non-work related activity to do while on the job.

The career website Zippia.com set out to see just what exactly everyone was munching on while on the job. In the state of Texas, Funyons took the number one spot. Personally, that is not my choice of go-to snack, but according to their findings, I would be in the minority on this one. To conduct the study, Zippia used Google Trends to determine which states were the most avid fans of each snack. They examined 45 different favorite snacks. They excluded gum and sodas from from the study, however they are usually right there in the vending machine next to the snacks.

Our neighbors to the west in New Mexico go for the beef jerky, and considering how close we are to New Mexico, I would say that could be a very close favorite for snackers in the panhandle. Over in Oklahoma, it is Sour Patch Kids, which are always a great choice. Up in Colorado, they navigate towards the Cosmic Brownies. Seems fitting considering certain snack-craving substances are legal in that state.

Other findings include:

  • Oreos are beloved; 5 states reach for Oreos before anything else.
  • All the “itos” chips (Fritos, Doritos, and Cheetos) made the map.
  • Missouri’s favorite treat, Grandma’s Cookies, the brand, not your actual grandma's cookies.
  • Most snacks were some state’s favorites. But no one likes Butterfingers, Hi-Chews, M&M’s, Reese’s, and Twizzlers the best.
  • Alaska would rather have a granola bar than any of the awesome sweet snacks listed above.
  • Both North Dakota and Wyoming’s favorite treats are sunflower seeds.
  • Sweet wins over salty- 29 states’ favorite snack is sweet.

Whatever your favorite snack is, just know that once you start, it's hard to stop. Scientific studies have concluded that kicking the junk food and sweets habit can be just as difficult as kicking a drug habit. In fact, many of the same withdraw symptoms are shared between these two groups of people. Just enjoy your snacks in moderation is all we're saying
